Blackwater - Hawley Green Farm

This project involves the change of use on the unused and derelict barn located within the urban settlement boundary of Hawley from Agricultural use to Class C3 (Dwelling Houses). This proposes to deliver one family dwelling house by extending and converting the existing barn which has come to fall in disrepair and unused. The proposal was seen to be a positive approach to develop the site by converting the existing building and bringing it back into use, this a benefit to the heritage asset.

The inside of the building has been configured to accommodate the needs of a large family home. In centring the main constraining elements, the interior maintains a degree of continuous visual reference of the existing form of the building.

The first-floor accommodation has been set into the roof eaves and connected by a gallery walkway with internal voids to connect the floor plan below.

The window styling as proposed is that of conservation timber for the main barn element, this is set off against the later addition using “Crittal” to enhance the industrial proportions of that section.
